1985

The Counseling Team International (TCTI) was founded by Dr. Nancy Bohl Penrod in San Bernardino, California.

1986

The training division was expanded at TCTI to include culturally competent instructors and course certifications for ICISF, LEWA, POST, BRN, and ICEMA.

1987

The addition of TCTI Employee Support Services (ESS) provides short term counseling and support resources for public safety and their eligible dependents.

1988

Peer Support Programs were introduced by TCTI that provide culturally competent training and peer support resources.

1989-1994

TCTI expanded their services to include crisis and hostage negotiation and line of duty death response.

1995

Dr. Stephen Odom developed and led a dual diagnosis treatment program exclusively for impaired registered nurses for a hospital system in the San Francisco Bay Area.

2006

Dr. Stephen Odom began treating law enforcement officers through a hospital treatment program in Southern California.

2012

Dr. Stephen Odom founded a treatment center that would eventually become First Responder Wellness to exclusively treat public safety professionals.

2018

First Responder Wellness and The Counseling Team International began collaboration.

2019

Shift Wellness was founded and offers training, retreats, and behavioral care system development for first responder agencies and public sector organizations.

2020

Shift Wellness developed a behavioral healthcare system for a health trust that covers 96 cities throughout Idaho. We also helped build a network of culturally competent behavioral health professionals to support their EAP members.

2021

First Responder Wellness and The Counseling Team began a strategic partnership, and fully merged into our family of companies in February 2022.

2021

First Responder Wellness received the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Certification.

2022

Shift Wellness opened Eagle Creek, a private retreat center, in Idyllwild, California. This tranquil setting is ideal for those looking for insight, healing, education and support.

2022

The Counseling Team International supports over 150 full service contracts and 300 fee for service contracts. The company averages over 20,000 counseling sessions, 420+ crisis debriefs, and over 3,100 pre-employment psychology tests each year.

2022

Shift Wellness expanded our retreats that now include peer support teams, trauma and resilience, leadership and spouses.

2023

First Responder Wellness has treated more than 1,000 public safety professionals for post traumatic stress, addiction, alcohol, anxiety and depression.

2023

First Responder Wellness received accreditation from the Polyvagal Equine Institute and from ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy).

2023

Expansion of services now include a Proactive Approach to Wellness, and development of new and relevant training and retreats to support the health and wellness of the agencies we serve.

2023

Today, The Counseling Team International, First Responder Wellness and Shift Wellness operate independently under FR Health.
